The Maggie Moo Story
The most famous of Sarah's highland cows, Maggie Moo likes a wee dance, but she loves to sing even more. On a bleak, grey afternoon in the thick, low cloud, the kind that sticks to your coat, Maggie is often heard calling. Her warm-up exercises often scare away potential audiences, but if you stick around long enough, you’ll hear the sweetest rendition of Misty, her favourite Ella number.
The Prudence Story
Prudence is the Harvey Nicks of highland cows; she exudes luxury and class. Her glossy coat is well coiffured and regularly restyled, and she is way ahead of all the latest trends and colour combinations. That said, there is a different side to her that I like best; her true grit comes to light when she’s competing in ironman races. Last month she beat all the boys and still looked like a million dollars at the end!
The Highland Fling Story
Contrary to popular belief, highland cows are so-named not because of their Scottish heritage but because of their love and dexterity in dancing the Highland Fling. Miriam here won Gold in the 2015 dance championships. It was her unusual combination of asymmetric grand plié kick-ball change into a perfect pirouette that caught the judge’s eye.

Highland Cow Paintings
My Highland Cow paintings have become a bit of a signature and I couldn’t be happier about it! They’ve found homes with animal art lovers all over the place, and honestly, with characters this colourful, it’s no surprise! My highland cow paintings do more than just fill a wall, they bring it to life.
And I really believe that when you know the story behind these wonderful highland cows pictures, you’re not just hanging wall art. You’re making a friend with a whole lot of fur and personality. These shaggy icons of the Scottish Highlands aren’t just great fun to paint, they’re my muses. Every single cow I paint starts with a spark of personality and builds from there.
There’s no specific formula to creating my highland cow paintings, but I do have five magic ingredients I return to every time: energy, experimentation, structure, soul, and humour. Yes, sometimes it does look like I’m just throwing colour around (and sometimes I am!), but behind every splash and swirl is intention. If a painting doesn’t make me laugh or feel something while I’m creating it, it doesn’t leave the studio.
Love her so much!
I can’t believe it took me this long to finally order this print. I’ve been admiring Sarah’s work for YEARS, and now I have Morag! I have so many more on my list- not just for me, but to give as gifts. Thank you so so much. She is just beautiful! I’ll send you a picture when she’s in her new home (my sewing room wall😊)
The Magic Behind the Moo
People often tell me it looks like I’m just having fun with colour, patterns, and textures, and that is all part of it! But there’s a lot more going on under the paint. Every highland cow painting that I create starts with a careful drawing. I spend time getting the anatomy right, the way the neck turns, the weight of the coat, the gentle slope of the horns…I’ve meticulously studied these cows, sketched them in their fields, watched how they move, how they exist. I don’t invent the cows that I make into wall art, I interpret them.
Beneath the expressive surface of every highland cow painting is the quiet, careful observation of a beautiful animal.
It’s the tension between free expression and structure that brings them to life. I don’t want my wall art paintings to just sit and hang quietly on your wall, I want them to engage with you and draw your eye immediately to them. To make you pause, smile, maybe even feel like you’ve just shared a secret with a very fuzzy friend.
Because my highland cow paintings aren’t just pretty pictures. They’re personalities and special pieces of wall art that spark conversations.

Highland Cattle Wall Art That Feels Like a Friend
If you’ve ever had a pet, you know that moment when you look at each other and instantly get each other. That bond is exactly what I try to capture in my animal wall art, highland cow paintings included.Take Maggie Moo, she’s not just brushstrokes on wall art canvas. She’s a born performer, full of big-hearted energy, the kind of cow who sings her own tune whether anyone’s listening or not. Prudence, on the other hand, is all elegance and strength, with the grit to run a marathon and the glamour to do it in style. And Miriam - oh, she’s pure movement and mischief, winner of the Highland Fling and proud of it.
Each of my highland cows paintings has a story behind it. I want you to see not just their beauty, but their sass, their humour, their heart.
These are cows with character - and then some.
Something for Every Space: Cow Art
People often say my wall art makes them smile, and to me, that’s the best compliment I could receive! My goal has always been to create wall art that lifts your spirits, even on the greyest days, and brings a bit of joy into your home. Whether it’s a bold highland cow painting in the hallway or an original portrait in the living room, my work is made to live with. My highland cow paintings are durable, vibrant, and textured in ways that invite a closer look. Sometimes you’ll spot a glint in the eye you hadn’t noticed before, or a swirl of colour that suddenly means something new. These pieces of wall art are designed to grow with you.Whether you're looking for a standout piece of wall art, a meaningful gift, or the perfect addition to a cosy corner, my collection of highland cow paintings offers something full of personality - and a whole lot of moo!
