Commissioning a painting can feel like a big step, especially if it’s your first time. But never fear, it’s really a collaborative and super exciting process!
From start to finish, my goal is to create a personalised pet portrait that captures the essence of your pet or favourite animal while making the experience simple, clear, and joyful.
What reference materials will I need?
The first step is usually gathering reference photos of your pet. Clear images that show your pet’s face, expression, and personality help me understand them fully. But don’t worry, these don’t have to be perfect, they just need to be taken close to your pet, so their head and shoulders fill the frame. Ideally looking at the camera. This may take a few attempts but it can be fun too! If your furry friend is no longer around, I can help you pick out the best images you already have. The more personality that shines through, the better I can bring your pet to life on canvas.
How long does a commission usually take?
Each painting is unique, so timelines can vary depending on size, complexity, and my current schedule. Typically, a single dog or animal portrait will take 2-3 weeksl weeks from start to finish.
I will always communicate clearly about expected timelines and progress, so you know when to expect updates and delivery.
What styles are available for commissioned portraits?
I specialise in bold, expressive, colourful animal art. My focus is on capturing personality and connection rather than strict photorealism. Every pet portrait is a one-of-a-kind statement piece, combining accuracy with expressive flair. Whether it’s a playful dog, a proud stag, or a gentle Highland cow, the style is designed to bring energy and joy into your home while remaining recognisable and true to the subject.
How involved will I be in the creative process?
Commissioning art is a completely collaborative journey. I encourage you to share what makes your pet or animal unique, their little quirks, expressions, or habits that capture their personality. I then interpret those details through colour, texture, and composition, creating a pet portrait that feels alive. You’ll see your pet reflected not just in likeness, but in spirit.
What can I expect when the painting is complete?
Once your pet portrait is finished, it will arrive ready to hang, carefully packaged to protect every detail. My clients tell me that seeing their pet captured on wall art canvas is an emotional, joyful experience. The finished animal artwork isn’t just a pet portrait, it’s a lasting tribute, a connection to the animals you love, and a colourful statement piece of wall art for your home.
Who should consider commissioning a pet portrait?
A commissioned animal portrait is perfect for anyone who loves their pet, wants a statement piece of wall art, or wants to preserve the memory of a companion in a truly personal way. It’s ideal for dog owners, animal lovers, or anyone looking for a meaningful, unique piece of artwork. If this resonates, joining my waiting list is the first step to creating your own bespoke animal painting.
Commissioning a painting is more than buying art, it’s creating a connection, celebrating personality, and adding a joyful, vibrant presence to your home that you’ll treasure for years to come.
