Custom paintings and colourful commissions from renowned wildlife artist Sarah Taylor

Sarah specialises in custom paintings and commissions, creating really special pieces for her customers. Everything is tailored to suit your requirements which makes it super easy to turn any subject you love into a truly unique tribute.
The simple process allows you to commission custom paintings from a photo; animals and family pets are very popular. Sarah's unique style of painting immortalises any animal photo into a stunning work of art or transforms your average school photo into a portrait to cherish forever.

How It Works

Find reference photos for Sarah to work from. Whatever the subject, these need to be in focus and clear, with the subject in close-up rather than full height. So the face needs to be large, and the eyes nice and clear.

Contact Sarah via the form at the top of the page to share your ideas. Sarah will discuss your options and make suggestions for you to get the most out of your special commission.

If you decide to go ahead with your own special custom paintings, then Sarah will take a small deposit, and schedule your paintings in the studio.

* Sarah can get pretty booked up at peak times so booking early is advised to meet your deadline. Painting time is usually 2 weeks, but it can take up to 2 months to slot you into Sarah's schedule.

In the run up to your scheduled dates, Sarah will be in touch with composition ideas based on the photos you have sent. You will have chance to make any changes and discuss colour options.

Sarah will make sketches based on the agreed composition and start to paint. At this point 50% of the full price will be payable. Sarah will send you regular updates so you can follow the progress of your special commission.

Once the painting is complete and you are happy, Sarah will frame, and package the painting ready to ship. At this point the final payment of the remaining 50% will be payable prior to shipping.

“From the very beginning of the commission Sarah was so easy to deal with. I needed a bit of help getting the right light and size of picture for Sarah to capture all the detail and Sarah provided this without hesitation. After a few rounds of vetting my photography skills, we settled on a pic. As the commission developed Sarah provided progress updates with pictures so I could see the transformation from start to finish which was fantastic to see.

When it arrived and I could see it in real life I couldn’t have been happier! The commission was a gift for my wife’s birthday. She was delighted with it and Jimmy now hangs in our hall at the front door so our family and friends can see him first when arriving. We’ve recently taken another furry friend and once he’s fully grown, we won’t hesitate to have another commission done by Sarah of him.” Dave

Commission options

  1. 60 - The most popular option is the 60 cm painting which is the same size, format and price as the majority of Sarah's original paintings. It is the optimum size for subject detail and allows enough space for some good splashes and pattern. The painting is on a specially prepared board and framed in a contemporary floating frame. - £1950

  2.  40 - If you’re stuck for space, the smaller option is the 40 cm painting which is displayed in a contemporary floating frame. The subject will take up more of the space, with a little less detail and pattern. But it will still look awesome! - £1750

  3.  100 - “The Biggie” 1-metre square painting – this is a cracker! If you want to really make a statement, this sexy beast is what you need! This format gives us plenty of space for some serious splashing and ultra-detailing work. It will blow your socks off! This beauty is painted on a chunky canvas board so no need to frame - £3200  Currently UK only

2 or more dogs? I only paint one character  per painting as each animal deserves their own space. Although I realise some of you would prefer 2 doggies on one painting, I have learned that it just doesn't work with my technique and style so no longer offer this option. I prefer to give each one my full attention and capture their unique character without them fighting for attention.

All prices include free UK delivery. * NB 100cm only available within the UK mainland.

Custom shapes – if you have a particular place in mind that would suit a different shape painting, then contact Sarah and she will be able to provide a personal quote.

First and foremost, for aesthetic reasons Sarah would always recommend 1 subject per painting. Having more than one subject per painting more than doubles the work, so the price increases accordingly.

Sarah will discuss colours with you when you’re going through details; if there are any colours you want Sarah to use or omit you can let her know prior to painting.

It’s a good idea to have a look at some of the colour schemes in Sarah’s paintings and see which you like best.

    The standard sizes are 60, 40 & 100cm (approx.)

The minimum size is 40 cm square, as below that doesn’t give enough space for Sarah to work.

    Maximum height 100cm

The actual painting time is usually about 2 weeks (depending on size)but it can take a month or 2 to fit your commission into Sarah’s schedule. If you need the painting for a specific date, Sarah will do her utmost to meet your deadline, but give her as much help by booking in as early as possible.

UK Delivery is included in the price

Copyright of the painting always remains with the artist; this means you own the physical painting but not the rights to the image. However if you want prints for other family members for instance, Sarah will be able to supply.

Quite possibly! If your custom painting is a special present it will remain a secret until after you have presented your gift. Everyone loves to see the paintings Sarah has made so Sarah is likely to share the work on social, and add the painting to her website.

Not at all!! I will happily paint anything you like!

    Other animals!

Although I’m talking a lot about dogs here, I do take commissions for lots of other animals (and humans!) This colourful Sulphur-crested cockatoo was painted specially for a lovely Australian couple living in London who wanted something to remind them of home. They picked out colours they wanted to include , and I brought him to life with my unique painting technique.

"Sarah was a real pleasure to work with. She was very professional and made sure that the style and colours were what we wanted, without overwhelming us with choices. She has made a painting for us that is now the best piece of art in the house. It makes me happy every time I look at it." Annabel

“Having a few of Sarah’s prints already, I was looking for a fitting way to remember our Springer, Buster who my wife adored, so I commissioned Sarah to paint our recently departed family member. From choosing the pictures to use, choosing the colour scheme and discussing the progress stages, the whole process was easy and inclusive.

My wife was amazed at the end result and how realistic Buster looked especially his eyes! 5*’s Sarah”

"I decided to commission a piece from Sarah as a present for my Wife. I found Sarah a pleasure to deal with and was engaging throughout. Marie my wife was absolutely delighted and overwhelmed when she received my special gift.

Sarah totally captured Otto’s personality. He has taken prime position in our living room.
